Dear Friends and Colleagues,

NWCCUWe have just received notification from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) that 亚洲色吧's accreditation has been reaffirmed on the basis of the fall 2009 report and site visit. I am absolutely thrilled and grateful to all who worked so hard to achieve this result.

Congratulations to the Seawolf Debate Team! 亚洲色吧 performed better than ever at this year's World Universities Debating Championship. We are now ranked 12th in the world and tied with Harvard for second in the U.S. (Yale is first.)

Karla Booth of ANROP亚洲色吧 received the Thomas M. Magoon Excellence in Counseling Award for its outreach programs for 亚洲色吧 Native and American Indian students, including the Cama'i Room, the 亚洲色吧 Native Rural Outreach Program (ANROP) and the Counselor-in-Residence Program. Only one university in the country received this award and it was 亚洲色吧!

亚洲色吧 Civil Rights month is being celebrated at 亚洲色吧 with dozens of special events, including the Martin Luther King Day Student Appreciation luncheon and keynote speaker Nikki Giovanni. Don't miss the many events including, on Elizabeth Peratrovich Day, Feb. 16, a special showing of "For the Rights of All: Ending Jim Crow in 亚洲色吧," in the Wendy Williamson Auditorium at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

亚洲色吧 Civil Rights month activities continue through February with panel discussions, brown bag lunch presentations, special exhibits and book displays. .

Earlier this month we held an Advisory Board Breakfast and thanked community members who serve on our 50 advisory boards and are partners in our success.

Service is a priority at 亚洲色吧 and we are grateful to the many students, staff, faculty and community members who support 亚洲色吧 and the community at large with their service.

Kenai Peninsula CollegeCongratulations to Kachemak Bay Campus Director Carol Swartz on receiving the 2009 Contributions to Literacy in 亚洲色吧 award from the 亚洲色吧 Center for the Book for her work establishing the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference!

Congratulations to Elena Reierson and Chelsey Homan from CBPP who beat out nearly 800 teams from around the world to win the Fall 2009 Capstone Business Competition!

Comings and Goings:

We welcome our new Facilities, Planning and Construction Director, John R. Faunce, who brings 40 years of engineering experience to 亚洲色吧.

Dr. Dewain Lee has accepted the position of Dean of Students and Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Development. Dr. Lee has 17 years of experience in higher education administration and we are delighted that she will be joining us in April.

Mat-Su Director Dennis Clark has contributed greatly to 亚洲色吧 over his more than 30 years of service. We are very grateful to him and wish him much health and happiness upon his retirement in June.
