Peony Cooperatives
There are three peony marketing co-ops owned by farmers in ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É. ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É Peony Co-op (Mat-Su), ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É Beauty Peony Co-op (Homer) and the ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É Peony Market Cooperative (Soldotna). These farms sell within the state and market ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É peonies to other parts of the US and abroad.
Peonies are coveted flowers for weddings and other special occasions. ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É’s unique geographic location, late growing season, and long summer days allow ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É’ peony farmers access an unfulfilled market segment: weddings in July, August and September. Because of this, competition for ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É peonies is low and demand is high.
ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É peonies are harvested before they bloom, and shipped as buds to locations world-wide. Once peonies arrive, consumers place the peonies into water and watch as the magic of ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É’s peonies bloom before their eyes.
