On June 30, the ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É Black Caucus held the Covid & Beyond: Black Health & Wellness Town Hall at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium at the ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É. Amana Mbise, Ph.D., an assistant professor with the School of Social Work under the College of Health, presented eye-opening findings from the first-ever Black ÑÇÖÞÉ«°Éns Health Status report.
Yvonne Chase, Ph.D., associate professor with the Dept. of Human Services under the ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É College of Health, is the new president-elect of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
According to results from research led by Micah Hahn, an environmental epidemiologist here at ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É, ÑÇÖÞÉ«°Éns' health starts suffering when temperatures climb to 70 degrees, and that local and state officials should consider policies to respond to heat-related health problems that are expected to increase as the climate continues to warm.
ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É Master of Social Work alumni Kim Kovol recently was appointed by Gov. Mike Dunleavy as acting commissioner of the new ÑÇÖÞÉ«°É Department of Family and Community Services.
